It is Merlot Month and I am here for it! This grape does not get enough credit. Did you know Merlot is often blended with higher tannin varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon to soften the blends? It is a very versatile grape that can be light and fruity or a riper Merlot tends to be more full-bodied with notes of blackberry and black plum.

Fell in love with a new (to me) varietal this weekend. This Picpoul from @paulmas is fantastic! Picpoul means “stings the lip”, fitting as it does have some zing to it. Lemon, green apple and light floral notes. Saline and citrus notes mingle nicely on the palate. Balanced with bright acidity. #picpoul #frenchwines

I know it’s Merlot Month but damn, this 2015 Cabernet from @smithdevereux is a charmer.✨ Another boutique winery I couldn’t resist! AND, I’m a sucker for a good story. With eclectic backgrounds as a wine writer and a music industry insider, the stars aligned, forming Smith Devereux, with the help from partner John Anthony Truchard and his wine industry and farming expertise. These guys create limited-production wines, sustainably farmed at affordable prices and have fun while doing it. Their energy is contagious!

Who else loves wines from the Mt. Veeder Appellation?🍷I feel in love with this mountain last year after visiting a few wineries on this unique hillside. Known for having the highest vineyards in Napa Valley and rugged terrain, most work is done by hand.
