I used to think that self-love was something that would automatically come once I reached a certain number on the scale, or fit into a certain pant size. Instead, I have come to know that self-love is not accompanied by a physical trait that one achieves but is a mindset; a way of viewing yourself which comes once you have chosen to love yourself deeply and unconditionally, the way we are taught to love those we care about the most. It means choosing to love yourself the same on the days you climb the highest mountains as those where you fail so hard you think you’ll never recover. It’s about compassion and respect, embracing your quirks, and being proud of who you are. So often we are told to focus on showing kindness to others. Something we seldom remember to do is show kindness to ourselves. Gratitude. Compassion. Self-love. Practice them.
