Check out the link in my bio to read a great Forbes article titled “Power of the Pack: Women Who Support Women Are More Successful”. It was read as the opening to a small gathering I recently attended with the intent to discuss “Women Supporting Women”.

I have a call to action for you: As we approach the last weekend of Women’s History Month, take a minute to reflect on how you can lend support to a woman in your life. If you don’t know how you can help her shine brighter, ASK! ❤️ How do you choose to help build up the women in your life?

Until I understood the beauty of a strong and healthy body, I spent a lot of emotional energy wishing I had a different one. I constantly compared myself to celebrities and models presenting an ideal of beauty I could never achieve. I was sent the message many of us receive as women-that the less space we take up, the more societal value and status we have. As soon as I chose to be grateful for all the things a strong body allows me to see and do, I was able to begin to love it and more importantly myself in ways I never imagined before. http://liketk.it/3fsmU #liketkit @liketoknow.it

Just here to remind you that you don’t have to choose between being a Cheetah Girl and Bob the Builder. Or between a successful career and fulfilling personal life. Or between being technically competent and having people skills. Or between being assertive and respected. You don’t have to choose between being strong and feminine. Bring your entire self to the table and if you aren’t welcomed, show up with your own dang table.

I used to think that self-love was something that would automatically come once I reached a certain number on the scale, or fit into a certain pant size. Instead, I have come to know that self-love is not accompanied by a physical trait that one achieves but is a mindset; a way of viewing yourself which comes once you have chosen to love yourself deeply and unconditionally, the way we are taught to love those we care about the most. It means choosing to love yourself the same on the days you climb the highest mountains as those where you fail so hard you think you’ll never recover. It’s about compassion and respect, embracing your quirks, and being proud of who you are. So often we are told to focus on showing kindness to others. Something we seldom remember to do is show kindness to ourselves. Gratitude. Compassion. Self-love. Practice them.

【The Red Planet】
Think it’s cold here on Earth? Think again. Due to Mars’ distance from the sun and its thin atmosphere made up of nearly 95% CO2, temperatures average around -80F. Temperatures during the winter can plummet to -195F at the poles. 🥶

Looking for a unique Christmas gift for the space lover for in your life? Check out @astrohouse for cool t-shirts like the one I’m wearing here feat. the Red Planet. The shirts run a little comfy so I recommend sizing down 1-2 sizes. “Our journey as runners often takes us down shared roads. At times, those roads are harder and more challenging than we planned for and we need to adjust our pace to make our way through. But always, our grit, determination, perseverance, humanity, and sheer belief in ourselves and our community guide us to the finish line.”

𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸. 💥 But I got up (cue catchy song), put my boxing gloves back on, and will continue to create my dream life. I’m a fixer and spend a lot of energy trying to help other people sometimes failing to be in touch with the source of my own feelings and actions. Yesterday I was reading @brenebrown’s “Dare to Lead” and she had this to say about fixers: “In the face of a difficult conversation, when we see that someone’s hurt or in pain, it’s our instinct as human beings to try to make things better. We want to fix, we want to give advice. But empathy isn’t about fixing, it’s the brave choice to be with someone in their darkness-not to race to turn on the light so we feel better.” http://liketk.it/3eS62 #liketkit @liketoknow.it

I was only about 7 years old when I first realized I wanted to work in the space industry one day. I used to look up at the stars and dream of exploring our universe. However, growing up I had relatively low exposure to the types of hands-on activities capable of sparking an interest in STEM. Tynker Coding for Kids and BBC Learning have partnered to make coding accessible and fun, not only providing kids with the inspiration to pursue STEM careers but also to grow their self confidence in the skills required to thrive in these fields. With the HiFive Inventor Coding Kit, kids of all ages have the opportunity to experiment with coding in a fun and non-intimidating way.

I started out as a nerdy 14 year old trying to make a buck as a doughnut boxer in Fargo, ND while day dreaming about where my future would take me. Fast forward from then to this picture taken while sitting around like I owned the place after just over a year at my absolute dream job. When you’re young and feel like your future is light years away, keep dreaming, keep working hard and know that the journey is what makes the destination so beautiful. 🚀

My undergrad advisor once told me I wasn’t the type of person who would get to the end of my life and wonder how I ended up there. Although I’ve always been proud of how easily my career goals have seemed to fall into place, I couldn’t help but dwell on all that I didn’t have. Years of moving around for my internships, college, my job had left me perpetually saying goodbye to someone or some place and made romantic relationships incredibly difficult to maintain.
•
A fellow woman in STEM messaged me last week mentioning how she wishes she could dedicate more time to her professional goals. After looking at her page I was somewhat surprised. She was married with two kids-a milestone my 18 year old self thought I’d surely have accomplished by now. I still struggle with feeling like I’m “behind” on some aspects of my personal life.
•
Yet I believe with my whole being that everything happens for a reason. You are exactly where you need to be on your journey. Someone is envious of what you have, so be grateful for it and make a roadmap for how you’ll accomplish the rest of your goals. They don’t all have to happen overnight and certainly not all at once.
•
Society makes a habit of trying to convince us that we don’t have enough, despite all that we already have. Be proud of your journey and know that the pieces will fall into place. You will 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒊𝒕 𝒂𝒍𝒍, when the 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕.
